My Canal High Quality Full Cap.svb

After two decades, Democrats are finally on track to break the firewall between the pharmaceutical industry and the Medicare program. Soon, the U.S. government will be able to use the full brunt of its leverage to negotiate discounts from drugmakers, like the governments in many other high-income countries.

This river has flooded numerous times in years past inundating Pajaro and Watsonville yet nothing substantial was done to the levee other than minimal repair consisting of rock and dirt. Apathy and indifference prevailed until The Mercury News and other media outlets brought the plight of the residents to light and now the ball is hopefully rolling to rectify the problem permanently.

Sadly, disparity is evident regarding Pajaro. To prevent this from happening again, the offending levee needs concrete embankments similar to a canal or aqueduct. Also, new development in the form of retail such as Walmart will give it a huge employment boost and complement the agricultural jobs.

Construction on the CAP canal began in 1973 and proceeded across the desert until reaching Tucson in 1994. It required a number of pumping stations to aid gravity in delivering the water. This is the Little Harquahala Pumping Station northwest of Phoenix. One of my partners on the ambulance went on to become the on-duty EMT for the construction work.

Warning: The situation surrounding the failure of Silicon Valley Bank is fluid and until banks open in California on Monday morning and we know what course of action the powers that be have agreed upon over the weekend will we be able to see their full implications.

While the UK was obsessing over Gary Lineker and the BBC, the United States has had some seriously large fish to fry in the form of Silicon Valley Bank and its holding company SVB Financial Group which on Friday collapsed in a pile of dust. There are two stories to consider, the first of which is how it could be that the 16th largest bank in the country could get it so dreadfully wrong as well as the possible systemic implications, and the second of which is what putatively catastrophic impact its failure might have had on the tech sector in general and especially on struggling start-ups in Silicon Valley. The salient facts appear to be as follows:

The Department of Justice won multimillion-dollar settlements against two other dental chains, alleging they had defrauded Medicaid by performing unnecessary root canals on children. One went out of business.

Besides drilling healthy teeth, Hughes said she saw dentists perform root canals on teeth that instead needed to be pulled. Root canals are much more lucrative. According to insurance company Delta Dental, pulling a tooth in Austintown costs up to $183 while a root canal can cost $1,142.

A deeply decayed tooth inevitably will have to be pulled later, exposing the patient to the possibility of serious infections, according to Dello Russo, the Boston dentist who reviewed case files for USA TODAY/Newsy. He characterized root canals on badly decayed teeth as a way to double-dip, allowing dentists to charge first for the root canal and later to pull the tooth.

For example, she said one patient was charged for a tooth being surgically removed when the patient actually had had a simple extraction. One costs $305, the other $183. She saw root canals crowned with decay left inside, meaning the patient would be back later to have that same tooth pulled.

Cheryl Knab, a benefits administrator, says this is what happened to her a little over two years ago at a North American Dental office in Westlake, Ohio. In Westlake, the cost of a regular cleaning is $91 to $104, according to Delta Dental, while a deep cleaning costs more than $1,200 for a full mouth.

Complete Dental Care, seven offices in eastern Ohio and two in Pennsylvania, that dentist Robert Doyle sold to North American in 2018, also has been accused of unnecessary treatments on social media. A whistleblower lawsuit in federal court adds heft to those accusations, saying that those practices and North American Dental are defrauding Medicaid by diagnosing unnecessary root canals.

The lawsuit says Kramer saw one patient last May who had just gotten two root canals and was told she needed more, but X-rays showed otherwise. Shortly after, Kramer saw another patient who was told he needed 18 root canals.

Kramer alleges that while nine teeth needed to be pulled, the other teeth were fine. Kramer said in the lawsuit that not only did the patient not need root canals, but no patient would ever need 18 of them at once.

The Central Arizona Project is a 336-mile canal in Arizona that supplies Colorado River water for the Phoenix and Tucson area, agriculture and several Native-American tribes. Construction began in 1973 and was substantially complete by 1994. This portion is located near Sandario Road and Mile Wide Road west of Tucson on March 17, 2021.
