What is torrenting and why do people use it?

Torrenting is a method of downloading and sharing files over the internet using a peer-to-peer (P2P) network. A torrent file is a small file that contains information about the larger file that you want to download, such as its name, size, location, etc. A torrent client is a software that reads the torrent file and connects you to other users who have the same file or parts of it.

People use torrenting for various reasons, such as:

  • Speed: Torrenting can be faster than other methods of downloading because it uses multiple sources instead of one. This means that you can download from many users at the same time, increasing your download speed.

  • Availability: Torrenting can be more reliable than other methods of downloading because it does not depend on a single server or source. This means that you can still download even if some users go offline or stop sharing.

  • Cost: Torrenting can be cheaper than other methods of downloading because it does not require any subscription or payment. This means that you can download for free as long as you have an internet connection and a torrent client.
