Plot of Talaash
The movie begins with a car accident that kills Armaan Kapoor (Vivan Bhatena), a famous actor who was driving under the influence of alcohol. They find out that Armaan was being blackmailed by someone who had a video of him having sex with a prostitute named Mallika (Aditi Vasudev). They also learn that Armaan had visited a hotel called Lido before his death, where he met Mallika.
Surjan goes to Lido to find out more about Mallika, but he encounters Rosie (Kareena Kapoor), another prostitute who works there. Rosie tells him that Mallika was killed by Shashi (Subrat Dutta), a psychic who runs a brothel and a blackmailing racket. She also tells him that Shashi has a limping pimp named Tehmur (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), who is in possession of the video. Surjan follows Tehmur, and manages to get the video from him. He also finds out that Tehmur has a crush on Rosie, and that he is planning to run away with her.
Meanwhile, Surjan's wife Roshni (Rani Mukerji) is struggling to cope with the death of their son Karan (Mohammed Iqbal Khan), who drowned in a lake two years ago. She visits Shashi, who claims to be able to talk to Karan's spirit. Shashi tells her that Karan is unhappy, and that he wants his father to stop investigating Armaan's case. Surjan and Devrath discover that Armaan had a twin brother named Sanjay (also Vivan Bhatena), who was mentally unstable and was kept in a mental asylum. They also find out that Sanjay had escaped from the asylum on the night of Armaan's death, and that he was the one who was blackmailing Armaan. They deduce that Sanjay had killed Mallika, and then chased Armaan on the road, causing him to crash his car.
Surjan confronts Sanjay at his hideout, where he confesses his crimes. He reveals that he hated Armaan for taking away his life and fame, and that he wanted to ruin him. He also says that he knows about Rosie, and that she is not what she seems. He then shoots himself in the head, before Surjan can arrest him.
