The film revolves around the conflict between Sivan, a Madurai-based crime boss, and his adopted son Shakthi, who becomes a police officer and decides to stand up for the law. The film explores the themes of loyalty, family, friendship and justice.
Plot
Sivan is a powerful crime lord who controls the illegal activities in Madurai. He adopts Shakthi, an orphan boy, as his son and raises him along with his biological children Vignesh and Mahalakshmi. Shakthi grows up to be loyal to his father and follows his footsteps in the underworld. However, he also secretly enrolls himself in the police academy and becomes a sub-inspector.
Shakthi is posted to Chennai, where he meets Shanthi, a bubbly girl who falls in love with him. He also befriends Gopal, a constable who helps him in his missions. Shakthi soon learns that Sivan's rival is a corrupt cop named Perumal, who is also his senior officer. Perumal tries to frame Shakthi for various crimes, but Shakthi manages to expose him and get him arrested.
Meanwhile, Sivan decides to contest in the upcoming elections and asks Shakthi to support him. Shakthi agrees, but he also wants to reform his father and make him leave his criminal ways. He convinces Sivan to surrender himself to the law and serve his sentence. Sivan agrees, but he is betrayed by one of his associates who shoots him on the way to the court.
Shakthi is devastated by his father's death and vows to avenge him. He tracks down the culprit and kills him. He then declares war on Perumal, who has escaped from prison and joined forces with another gangster named Aadhi Kesavan. Shakthi and his team raid Aadhi's hideout and arrest him. However, Perumal arrives with his men and frees Aadhi. A fierce gunfight ensues between Shakthi and Perumal's gangs.
In the end, Shakthi manages to kill Perumal and Aadhi, but he is also fatally wounded in the process. He dies in Shanthi's arms, saying that he has fulfilled his duty as a son and a cop.
